For health insurance, it’s fairly simple. If it is a legitimate website that is giving quotes, it should ask for ZIP code, county, date of birth, whether or not the person is a smoker, and whether or not the person is a student. It will not ask for name, social security number, phone number, or any other personal info, except the date of birth. As long as you do not supply any personal info, your personal info cannot be harvested.
Car insurance is trickier, because car insurance rates are based on credit scores, so you do have to provide personal information (including social security number) to get an accurate quote.
Go to a good web site and get them. Most of the good web sites will give you quotes without you having to divulge your personal information. So, check out the site first. Is it full of ads or is it actually full of information? Do they have a physical address in the "About Us" section?
The vast, vast majority of those online websites, are all about harvesting your personal information to sell it as leads to hundreds of agents.
You’re better off just calling a few local agents.
